| Dreaming about French |
|
A series of three documentaries by Jean-Michel Dijan, Jean-Marc Panis and Philippe Lavalette. Used by more than 400 million people worldwide, French has become a universal language nourished by the sounds, rhythms and surprising lexical variations. Since its emergence, in the 7th century, this child of Latin has been enriched by various cultures that make the language of Molière a terrain of shared imagination, but also of conservation and defensiveness... It is this contemporary linguistic dynamics that will be recounted through the lives of men and women who - from Africa to the Caribbean, Quebec to Europe - nourish, justify and sometimes challenge the language. They are civil servants, academics, writers, singers or politicians. What they share is the fact they practice the language with love, savouring its subtleties while knowing its virtues and vices. In co-production with Grenade Productions (Frace) and Productions Virage (Quebec). In co-production with TV5 Monde and the RTBF (writing development). |
