Brendan

An animated feature by Tomm Moore

ImageSynopsis:  Ireland in the 9th century... Brendan, a young 12 year-old orphan, is living in the fortress-abbey of Kells. This is where he meets old Brother Aidan - a master illustrator and guardian of the fabulous Books of Kells. This meeting changes the course of Brendan's life. From that moment on, he is enchanted by the sirens of creativity and soon only has one idea in mind: to himself become a limner and finish the work on the Book. But to do that, Brendan must first convince the abbot of Kells, his uncle, and enter the forest where 1000 dangers lie in waiting. With the help of a wild child of 12, Aisling, Brendan faces his greatest fear, even risking death. Blood-thirsty Vikings, a mythical serpent-god and a genuine spirit of the forest are just some of the characters that Brendan meets in his astounding journey towards imagination...

The Book of Kells is now in Trinity College, Dublin. It is recognised as being one of the world's great artistic heritages.
