Male Domination

Full-length documentary directed by Patric Jean.

Synopsis: Men beat their wives, men kill their wives.

Starting from an extreme case of a man that killed 14 women because they were taking the place of men in society, the narrator goes looking for the things that allow, organise or justify injustice or violence against women in the Western world. From the image of women in advertising to physical violence. From the training of kids through toys to sexist injustice in the workplace - a cultural continuum is revealed. Whereas violence against women is often explained by culture or religion in the Third World, it is also often presented as accidental in the West. While children continue to be educated in stereotypes, an omnipresent injustice against women is perpetuated before our tired eyes. With an overall feeling that the problem is solved. Through funny and horrible situations, depending on the narrator, the film asks candid questions about here and now, travelling to France, Quebec and Belgium to draw the outlines of a masculine domination that is finally being questioned but which leaves man not sure of his place. And where women too often still suffer.
