The only survivor of the sinking of the Virginie, Philippe de Nohan is stranded on the coast of an unknown island. An actor from the Comédie Française who was leaving at the peak of his success to conquer the Americas, he will have to learn to exist without an audience far from the eyes of men. In this century of light that he reconstructs with what he finds around him, the self-proclaimed Governor of the island of Hope slides gently into madness, until he meets a "young savage".
